Community Gamelan Repertoire for Spring 2026: Giri Kusuma, Puspawresti, Margapati, and Bapang Silisir

Gamelan Gita Santi offers instruction in traditional music from Bali Indonesia in the heart of the Indonesian-American community in South Philadelphia. Our instruments, a Balinese Gamelan Angklung, were made by Pandé I Wayan Sukarta in 2019. The instruments were named by one of our teachers, Indra Sadguna; Gita literally means "beautiful sounds, voices, and singing" and Santi means "peace".
This project is a three-way collaboration between Modero Dance, Gapura Philadelphia, and composer/performer Thomas Whitman with guest teaching artist I Nyoman Suadin. Other instructors have included Indra Sadguna and Putu Hiranmayena. The ensemble does not meet during the summer. Rehearsals will resume in the fall, one evening per week. Rebearsals take place at PAX, 2300 S 18th St, Philadelphia, PA 19145. Musicians in the ensemble can find videos of individual parts to the songs we play on the subsequent pages. |
